Best way to find older tracks? Tue Feb 26, 2008 3:39 pm

So there's a number of tracks that I've been itching to have for years now, but have never got my hands on em. Some of them, the label is defunct. Some of them just appear to be rare or white-labels that never got much circulation. Some tracks seem to have been abducted by aliens for all I know. But either way, I CAN'T BLOODY FIND THEM. It drives me nuts!
Of course, I'm not the only one....

So how do you look for old tracks, or search out the information you need? What has helped you find the vaunted treasure you've been so desperately seeking for so long?

Anyone have methods, ideas, sites, or other secrets?

I personally spend a lot of time on http://www.discogs.com, I find it to be a huge info source and a great help.

Hell, and while we're at it, list off a track or two that's been eluding you.
For me,
Deep Architecture - The Realm
Moon Knights - Midnight Lady(Deep Rose mix)

frankly speaking i use filesharing for stuff thats older than 2000 and not findable through more conventional means. but its not as easy as it sounds. got to find people who just happened to have the vynil and ripped it.

Well before you start looking for a tune make sure it's actually had an official release first.

Excellent point there, needs to have been released at all.
That really burns, too. I don't think that Moon Knights track got released, nor another that I've been twitching over for years, Murat Uncuoglu - Flame

I'm not saying you can't find unreleased tracks, just makes them all the harder to find. But if it's unreleased you shouldn't try looking in official channels per se.

And I don't suppose anyones gonna speak up on those unofficial channels?
There was a time years ago when I got a lot of my music free, but getting obscure or newly released music wasn't really in the cards. And at the time, I didn't care about how new it was, nor credit where credit is due ($$$-->Artists). You had to find someone who was a serious file sharer who just happened to be seriously into your style music. Not easy...
I don't imagine much has changed on that front... Unless, of course, I'm missing something.

Discogs man, that site should be top promoted voluntarily and free of charge everywhere, without it we'd have lost track of all music

here's a place for some pretty decent older tracks.
It's got pretty much the whole Hooj Choons catalog, some older Bedrock stuff etc

Cool icon_smile.gif Thanks for the link!

Many digital shops also have full catalogues available for the classic labels. In these times I recommend people to actually but the music they LOVE!
