How to get over stage fright?

Hey guys I'm new to the forums, and I have a problem that happens when I try to DJ in front of people. I'm a bedroom DJ, and I first took my decks out to a friends house with about 7 people total. I played my first track, and knew it was going to be a long night. I couldn't beatmatch to save my life; all i was thinking about was the people watching me and wondering if they disliked my style of music.
Has anyone else experienced these problems or something similar? Any input will help.

It happens to most people dude . Once you get the first couple of good mixes out the way you should start to relax a little . Try and create a state of mind and think you are in your bedroom by yourself . Also if you are that nervous look anywhere apart from the people watching you concentrate on the equipment in front of you and fiddle with it . Leave your headphones on your ears as much as you can so you cant hear anything but the music and above all dont drink too much alcohol or take drugs while your playing it will cloud your judgement . Before people answer this post these things worked for me many years ago and other dj,s will have there own opinions .

My advice would be to use tracks you are really comfortable mixing as your first few tunes to get your confidence up and settle the nerves.
Even use a track with a synth intro and no hats/drums as a first tune. After that perhaps play a couple of tracks that you regularly mix together in your bedroom or even rehearsal certain mixes beforehand.
In addition some drums are easier to mix than others. Good compressed and layered drums can make a DJs job alot easier.
I remember back in the day the likes of Weekend World, Thomas Penton and Blue Haze producing some really good tight drums with a good number of bars to allow a flowing mix.
Hope this helps!

It was just very awkward for me that first night. I remember two guys just sat next to me and just watched my every move; it was weird. Maybe I need to buy some blinders

its like the old say "practice makes perfect".
i remember my first gig in a club when i was 16 thinking, "holy crap, all these people are watching me and if i fuck up they are going to laugh"
the more and more gigs you play at the more comfortable you will feel with starting your set to the point you will be itching to get onto t he decks

Look at it this way.
If you get nervous, think about how those people will react. That's it.
And, think about opportunities you might lose just because you were nervous.

I think so too.
Yet, being nervous sometimes keeps you grounded.
Just my thoughts...

I have a lot of tips for getting over stage fright:
First, be aware that your view may be biased when doing a gig. You judge yourself more critically than others. Ask someone how the gig was afterward. For shure, answers will be more positive than you may think. This builds up confidence. Another tip is to realize that poeple are mostly concerned with themselves and not with you. They chat and flirt to each other, buy drinks, want to make party, dance or play with their smartphones. That removes attention and thus the pressure off of you.
I got a lot of more tips against stage fright on my website:
