im going to be getting a new laptop soon mainly for my music use...just wondering where could i download a good recorder program(preferably free ) that i could use to hook from my mixer to the laptop to record my mix!! any thoughts??

For what i think you want to do I agree Audacity is a good app and as previously mentioend its free.

audacity is really good!!!i wonder what cable can i hook up from my pioneer 600 mixer to my laptop(when i get it) to get the best possible quality sound?? is there anythin better than a phono to jack cable that can be used??

invest in a decent soundcard, that will solve quality issues.

Soundforge was great when I had a PC, but now with mac I roll with Audacity.

Instead of using just a plain old 1/8" audio cable into your built in sound card I suggest getting some sort of audio interface, I use my Torq interface and the quality is usually pretty good
