DJ / ARTIST INTERVIEW

Hyline
Germany

This week sees the release of Jetlag Digital's Ibiza 2010 Sampler, a massive release with 28 tracks and 2 full length DJ mixes. Hyline, A&R Manager compiled and mixed the project, we recently had a chance to interview the Jetlag Digital man and we talked about a variety of topics including the Sampler. A transcription of the interview is below, we hope you enjoy it!

1. Hello Carsten, as A&R and marketing manager of Jetlag Digital you seem to be having a great yeat so far with many banner features and chartings on Beatport, how do you see the year so far for Jetlag Digital?

In October 2009 Shane and I resolved a new way for Jetlag Digital. We never thought that it would result with so many great success' in 2010. We are very happy about this, of course first for our artists and for our label as well. Itīs time to say many thanks to all of you, which support and buy our music.

2. Jetlag Digital has already amassed some great artists on it's roster in recent years such as: Lemon8, Fady Ferraye, Andy Newland, Loquai, Chloe Harris and many others, what artists do you hope to work with in the future on Jetlag?

Thatīs a good question, for us and especially for me as A&R manager itīs important to have a good mixture between established and newcomer artists and we prefer to work with artist who can identify with our label philosophy, sure business is one side, but we want to feel the love for the music, but when you only want to hear a name: Cid Inc. Henry is on fire at the moment.

3. This week sees the release of a very big project for both yourself as a DJ and also Jetlag as a label, the Ibiza Sampler 2010 mix which is 2 full length mixes that have been compiled and mixed by you. When did the planning of this project begin?

Yes indeed, never thought that it could turn out to be so big, 28 Tracks and 2 mixes aprox. 90 min. The idea to do this came about in May of this year. For our label this is a great test, it will be a good judge to see if the people outside will love our upcoming releases. The tracks on the compilation that I selected are from our upcoming releases, either originals or remixes and put this together plus some great tunes from the past.

The mixes have two different themes: Beach & Club Mix. My intention as DJ is to take the listeners on a journey. These mixes are very emotional pieces for me and i mixed them with no planning whatsoever, I only knew the first track of every mix and the rest is “led by pure emotions”.

6. There alot of Hyline productions in pipeline from what we hear, what can we expect to see from you in the coming months?

My production-partner Jaybeetrax and I are a very good team, i am very thankful that we came together. Our next releases are on Spring Tube at the end of the month with a track is called Goosebumps and our track Summer is signed to Baroque Records which goes onto the Mix Compilation from Russel Greer. We are also have some remix-projects in the pipeline for AlterImage, BIT Records, Deep Moon Records, Spherax and of course for Jetlag Digital. We will work in the last quarter together with Ben Coda on a project and i am sure this would be great.

7. Aside from your own Jetlag Digital what labels are you really loving at the moment?

Spontaneously I would say microCastle, Replug, Spherax, AlterImage, Afterglow, Mistiquemusic and many other ones, they are so many little unknown labels which deliver great music as well, they get all my full support.

8. What do you feel about the house scene at the moment in terms of the quality of musical output?

This is a complicated question! In the past when we went to our local recordstore, we only know the music which was pre-selected. In my opinion this function would help today and itīs too easy to make a label, every week hundreds of new labels are coming out and in the same week hundreds of labels are closing his doors, this isnīt good for the artists, they lost the feeling to have a place where they can feel like home sweet home and this is a very important factor to build up an Artist to get the maximum of quality music.

At last i would say thanks a lot for this Interview to Mitch Alexander and to Release Promo especially, who do really great work for the Labels and Artists. Every week such a great newsletter with very good written reviews. We really appreciate this very much!
