RE: Zonker's Complete Guide to Fully Flexible Harmonic Mixing

Nice thread! It's great that so many people are now getting into harmonic mixing. I would like to respond to a couple of points:

While transposing vocals is risky, the most demanding sounds for pitch shifting software are usually percussion, and especially cymbals. Apparently percussion waveforms are more complicated. When I test pitch shifting, I use music with intensive percussion, such as freestyle.

Skilled musicians will normally provide much more accurate key results than software. This is why Camelot Sound has been using musicians to key music for almost 25 years, in compiling our 60,000 record work-in-progress harmonic mixing database at www.camelotsound.com. Please email camelot@gte.net for free trial access.

Allegedly the new Complex Pro in Ableton 8 has a better transpose algorithm. I don't have it so I don't know.

I'd like to try out MIK to see for myself.

I tried RE and It does that a while to analyze and it's not always accurate but the 'cool' thing is that it will tell you how accurate it is by %.
