Outside the Box Music (Rotterdam, Netherlands)
outsidetheboxmusic.nl
"To think 'Outside the Box' is to see things beyond the norm, to think beyond the limitations of consciousness and experience. To be a visionary".

Outside the Box Music was launched in 2006 and is the creative outlet of Dutchman Eelke Kleijn. Besides being a home base for his own productions, Outside the Box Music aims to release quality music from upcoming as well as established producers. In terms of music the label is as diverse as its name suggests, many releases not being easy to pigeonhole into a certain style but instead cross the conventional borders between them.

With releases and remixes by the likes of Dualtone (Johan Vermeulen / Jermain Hatusupy from Fine Taste & Infinitize), Kosmas Epsilon, Nick Hogendoorn, Roger Martinez, Sebastian Davidson and head-honcho Eelke Kleijn himself, the label has built up a pretty varied sound and identity. DJ Support has come from many different corners, including Hernan Cattaneo, Jimmy van M, Anthony Pappa, Fish Go Deep, Paul van Dyk and Nick Warren. Outside the Box Music is slowly but steadily becoming a well known name in quality house music.

OTBCD001 Francesco Pico - Imagining Sounds 2 (Jun 3rd, 2009)

01. See what we can find
02. Heart breaks
03. In between
04. The pad goes up
05. Like the old days
06. The thrill will be later (with Roell Sapphire)
07. Far more out
08. All by pitching the crowd
09. Smashed into the sky
Francesco Pico's first artist album 'Imagining Sounds' was released on Extrema Music in 2007. It was received extremely well by industry giants like Laurent Garnier and Dave Seaman. The single 'All By Yourself' was even featured in Sasha's Essential Mix and used by Jimmy van M to end his Balance 10.1 album.

Roughly two years later, Francesco has finished writing the long-expected follow up. Imagining Sounds 2 is set for release on the

OTB023 Fjor - Funkazoid / Frisky (Apr 29th, 2009)

2. Frisky
Florian Stanescu (Fjor) was born in Calarasi, a small town in Romania in the year '85.He grew up
listening to artists like Depeche Mode, Enigma, Daft Punk and The Prodigy. From 2000 onwards he has
been writing his own music.
His debut EP on Outside the Box Music is already a succes even before its release, with Gare Mat K
and Alex Young signing the track Funkazoid to their new Progrezo Records compilation, and Hernan
Catt

OTB022 Stefanowitz - Witzkraft EP (Mar 4th, 2009)

1. Witzkraft
2. Witzkraft (Satoshi Fumi Remix)
3. Open
Dutchman Stefanowitz is responsible for the 22nd release on Outside the Box Music. And he does so in style, with a wicked 2-track EP entitled 'Witzkraft | Open'. His deep techno beats combined with warm melodies and lush pads give his music an incredibly rich sound. Just listen to the first few minutes of Witzkraft and you know exactly what we mean. It's no suprise he already released his music on credible labels like Anjunabeats, Strom and Smoke

OTB021 Logiztik Sounds & Kally - Smash It (featuring remixes by Terry Grant, Qbical) (Feb 18th, 2009)

1. Smash It
2. Smash It (Terry Grant Remix)
3. Smash It (Qbical Remix)
None less than Sasha remix-contest winner Logiztik Sounds and Brazilian based DJ Kally are responsible for the next release on Outside the Box Music, 'Smash It'. After writing music for labels like Emfire and Global Underground they definitely manage to hit the right spot once again, balancing on the verge between tech house and progressive house. If it's not the catchy vocal sample that draws your attention, it must be the hypnotic arppegios or

OTB020 Francesco Pico & Roell Sapphire - The Thrill Will Be Later EP (Jan 14th, 2009)

1. The Thrill Will Be Later
2. The Thrill Will Be Later (Intro Tool)
3. The Thrill Will Be Later (Break Tool)
4. Browser
Francesco Pico and Roell Sapphire's 'The Thrill Will Be Later' is one of those amazing epic builders that you only come across every once in a while. It's no wonder that it's already being favoured by Hernan Cattaneo as well as Nick Warren. It takes a massive 4 minutes for the bassline to come in (hence the name), but once it drops The Thrill will grab you and not let go until well after the 10 minute mark. Honestly, you cannot miss this one; on

OTB019 Various Artists - OTB Sampler (featuring Maslow & MKN, Robin Onrust & Deepmind) (Dec 17th, 2008)

1. Maslow & MKN - Titanium White
2. Robin Onrust & Deepmind - Erato
3. Robin Onrust & Deepmind - Only on the B Side
The first ever sampler on Outside the Box Music features 3 tracks by up and coming Dutch producers. First we have 'Titanium White' by Maslow and MKN; by far one of the best tracks we have heard this year. In all its simplicity, this track yet manages to create an impact with each additional layer. This one is an excellent set builder or closer to set the mood.

'Erato' is where the EP really takes off. Robin Onrust & Deepmind manage to

OTB018 Elusive - Back in the Days EP (featuring remixes by Neos Deos, Nick Hogendoorn & Eelke Kleijn) (Nov 26th, 2008)

1. Back in the Days
2. Back in the Days (Neos Deos Remix)
3. Schnatz
4. Schnatz (Nick Hogendoorn & Eelke Kleijn Remix)
Elusive (Lars Jacobsen) is a mildly neurotic DJ and producer from Oslo, Norway. He has been active in dance music for almost a decade; arranging parties, hosting radio shows as well as working as a journalist. He is perhaps best known as resident on 'Oslo Nights' (www.oslonights.com), but has also been creating a name as a producer for the last few years, releasing material on labels such as Lost Language, Looq, Presslab and Baroque.

OTB017 Eelke Kleijn - Dopamine Theory (Oct 22nd, 2008)

1. Dopamine Theory
2. Dopamine Theory (Yvel & Tristan Remix)
3. FM / AM
Eelke Kleijn returns to the label with a wicked double A side, already played out by Hernan Cattaneo. Dopamine Theory builds on a repetitive vocal sample; stabs and sounds join in along the way. Although Dopamine Theory becomes melodic at times, the track relies more heavily on percussion and effects than we are used to from the Dutchman. That, however, is what 'Outside the Box' music is all about. This one is already favoured by Nick Warren.

OTB016 Soulfinder - The Trauma EP (Oct 1st, 2008)

1. Trauma
2. Nightvision
3. Colour of Love
Dublin based DJ and producer Soulfinder (Stephen Hogg) has been involved in music since he was 10, listening to all kinds of dance music ranging from Cosmic Baby to Moby. After taking up Djing as a teenager, he quickly saw himself advance to the next level, playing at most of the top radio stations and major clubs in Ireland. It wasn't until 2006 that he decided to take up producing, with noticeable result; Nick Warren quickly picked up his track

OTB015X Sebastian Davidson - Cherry Blossom EP Part 2 (featuring remixes by Eelke Kleijn, Nosmo v Kris B) (Sep 17th, 2008)

1. Ice Worlds
2. Ice Worlds (Eelke Kleijn Remix)
3. Things That Get Lost (Nosmo v Kris B Remix)
After releasing Sebastian's 'Cherry Blossom EP part 1', we're back with part 2! This time including the track 'Ice Worlds', both in the original version and Eelke Kleijn Remix, as well as the Nosmo v Kris B Remix of 'Things That Get Lost'.

Ice Worlds starts off with a very distinct bassline. Short noise hits, pads and punchy percussion are added along the way. A great track to warm up a night with, and already tested succesfully by Her

OTB015 Sebastian Davidson - Cherry Blossom EP Part 1 (Aug 27th, 2008)

1. Cherry Blossom
2. Cherry Blossom (Spiritchaser Remix)
3. Things That Get Lost

For our 15th release, future superstar Sebastian Davidson is back on the label with a wicked double EP. The first in this series, Cherry Blossom EP part 1, features his own tracks Cherry Blossom and Things That Get Lost backed with a lush remix by Spiritchaser. The first track on the EP, Cherry Blossom, evolves around an enchanting melody which Sebastian has become so well known for. Clever vocal bits are introduced along the way. Small bre

OTB014 Yvel & Tristan - Legacy / Sacred Spirit (Jul 31st, 2008)

1. Legacy
2. Legacy (Davis & May's Live Band Session)
3. Legacy (Ben Brown Remix)
4. Sacred Spirit
As a 14th release on Outside the Box Music, Yvel & Tristan from Hungary have joined the roster. Certainly not unknown in their own country or worldwide for that matter, Yvel & Tristan have already seen their tracks appear on labels such as Global Underground and Renaissance. They were the first Hungarians ever to appear on a GU compilation. Last year they released their first mixed CD for Justmusic.fm, launching their name even further among the

OTB013 Neos Deos - Dazed EP (Jul 17th, 2008)

01. Dazed
02. Promitto
03. Camelion
Thirteen is certainly not an unlucky number for us here at Outside the Box Music. With three amazing originals, Neos Deos (consisting of Da-Milio, Les Luca and Berry Le Funk) have a great debut release on the label. Their sound is not easy to pinpoint in a certain direction and can probably best be described as intelligent techno. 'Dazed' is based on a haunting organ sound that evolves throughout the track. Clever breaks and edits keep the track

OTB012 DJ Tim & Andi Vasilos - Lucky Girl (Jun 5th, 2008)

01. Lucky Girl
02. Lucky Girl (J-Soul Remix)
Both hailing from Greece, DJ Tim & Andi Vasilos are no strangers in the scene. Having remixed artists such as Elusive, Terry Grant and Matt Rowan, they have been going strong ever since their first release in 2005. With Lucky Girl, they deliver a funky slab of house music. Stabs and hits are introduced along the way, emphasising the groove in a really clever way. This will definitely appeal to all house lovers.

J-Soul from Russia is on

OTB011 Edwin Mulder & Ferdy - Trainstation EP (May 7th, 2008)

1. Trainstation North
2. Trainstation South
3. Trainstation North (Inox Remix)
Edwin Mulder & Ferdy are already well known from the Selective events they organise in their city Sneek in the Netherlands, as well as from their cooperation with fellow Dutchman Sebastian Davidson on the Global Underground label. Their 'Trainstation EP' on Outside the Box Music is one of the deeper things we have done so far, but as you are aware we love variety and this release is no exception.

Trainstation North is also remixed by I

OTB010 Nick Hogendoorn & Eelke Kleijn - Fat Dragon (Mar 27th, 2008)

1. Fat Dragon (Original)
2. Fat Dragon (Francesco Pico Remix)
Our 10th release is destined to become a big one. Nick Hogendoorn and label manager Eelke Kleijn once again return to the label with a big room monster which has already been successfully floor tested by Hernan Cattaneo and Anthony Pappa. Haunting strings, weird effects and a bass line which will blow you away; this one has got it all.

Next to the original, we have Global Underground and Extrema featured producer Francesco Pico turning

OTB009 Heatsteric - Boiling Point (Feb 11th, 2008)

01. Boiling Point (Original)
02. Boiling Point (Kosmas Epsilon Remix)
Hailing from Israel, Pini Falach aka Heatsteric delivers a great 9th release on Outside the Box Music. We picked this up as soon as we heard it. Driven by a wicked, punchy bass line, Boiling Point has a catchy progressive groove to start from. Short stabs and melodic hits carry the track along, electro influences make sure it has that aggressive, current day sound. Yet Boiling Point does not fall into clichés, staying interesting, funky and dance

OTB008 Fading Ocean - In Too Deep (Dec 24th, 2007)

01. In Too Deep (Original)
02. In Too Deep (Andi Numan Remix)
03. In Too Deep (Nick Hogendoorn & Eelke Kleijn Remix)
Hailing from Lebanon and currently living in Amsterdam, Fady Ferraye has spent many years as resident DJ at B018 in Beirut. He has performed besides internationally renowned artists such as Deep Dish, Paul Oakenfold and Tiesto while his tracks have not gone unnoticed either, receiving support from Hernan Cattaneo and Andy Moor among others. Michael Tomaselli (M'Ocean) on the other hand resides in New Jersey. Since the mid 90s he has been playing
