Josel & Pedro - Invasion of the Memory Snatchers & Lonely Future (Acute Recordings)
Release Date:
Reviewed: 7/10

After Acute’s recent release of the excellent ‘Flying Through Tokyo’ from OMB, expectations over their new digital label are high. Acute Digital kicks off with a double release from UK-based Josel & Pedro.

‘Lonely Future’ is the first track up for aural interrogation. Wasting little time with an intro, a floating melody quickly establishes itself underpinned by a resonating synth and atmospheric, almost classical pads. The track eases along smoothly, with no real change of pace or direction. A good track, but one for early in the evening.

The bizarrely entitled ‘Invasion of the Memory Snatchers’ outshines it’s more subtlety named brother. Raw percussion and industrial pads outline the intro before the chords of the main section of the track swing into action. Switching between breaks and house 4/4 sections the track progresses with purposes fading into a vocal-tinged breakdown, before re-emerging and continuing its smooth journey.

A good first release for Acute‘s digital division. The tracks would probably struggle on vinyl but the digital era has heralded opportunities for labels and artists to experiment musically - something that should never be discouraged.
