Gunas & Suffix - Sattwa & His Mind Got Confused (Omnis Recordings)
Release Date: September 0th, 2005
Reviewed: 8/10

San Francisco-based Omnis Recordings is the brainchild of Spundae resident, BPM Magazine reviewer and all-round industry nice guy, Jonathan Ojeda, New Zealander Al Manning and Irishman Christian Boshell. With a slue of quality digital releases floating around already, Omnis hit us with two more in the space of a month.

First up is OMNIS007 - ‘Sattwa’ by Gunas. This is a collaboration between all three label boffins. The track is powered by a deep, rumbling bassline and crisp kick. A simple vocal sample is echoed through the track along with swooshing pads and siren-like synths. Although not a peak-time track per se, ‘Sattwa’ will fill a gap in a more euphoric set very nicely, or provide excellent warm-up material.

OMNIS008 sees Jonathan Ojeda team up with fellow San Franciscan resident, Doug Eisengrein under the Suffix moniker. Clearly the boys at Omnis like things deep, as ‘His Mind Got Confused’ continues in the same vein as ‘Sattwa’, troubling Middle Earth with its dark atmospherics. The synths may seem a little overpowering at home but on a big sound system they will come into their own. A very large piece of progressive.

Omnis show that digital labels can provide quality tracks on a consistent basis. With works in the pipeline from Loway, Parlange and Chadwick Strange, the trend looks set to continue.
