Deeptone - Ashes (Red Circle Music)
Release Date: February 1st, 2006
Reviewed: 9/10

Red Circle Music launch themselves into the digital fray with ‘Ashes’ from rising progressive star, Deeptone. They recruit seasoned veterans Blue Room Project and Dobbs, along with a new face, Fady Farraye, to provide the remixes.

The original is a chugging piece of pure progressive. A syncopated opening gives way to a straight 4/4 beat and tight percussion work before the melody kicks in. Smooth pads and lush synths create a soft, lulling melody that sits atop an equally circumspect bassline. Soft keys drift through the breakdown; then the breakbeats re-appear momentarily and the main bassline returns to roll us to a gentle and fulfilling conclusion.

Beirut isn’t the first place you would associate with progressive house but the scene in Lebanon is growing steadily and at the forefront of its rise is local hero Fady Ferraye. He takes ‘Ashes’ down an even deeper road, extending the breakdown and accentuating the lushest tones of the original. The result is 10 minutes of transcendental mellowness.

Dobbs grabs the baton for the third remix and beefs things up a little. A tougher kick drum and a variety of snares and other percussion creates a more useful track for DJs. Much of the lushness underlying the original is lost but a nice breakdown and mid-section keeps the remix entertaining and refreshing. Stalwart progsters Blue Room Project complete the package in their inimitable fashion. Clever, stop-start drum patterns roll through the track, complemented by more smooth melodies.

A strong original that has gained support from Hernan Cattaneo, Benz & MD and Moshic, plus three quality remixes, introduces Red Circle Music to the market. Definitely worth having a listen next time you are browsing a download site.
