After a few months on holiday, Omnis return with a collaboration between label founder and music industry all-rounder Jonathan Ojeda and Scott Galloway, another San Francisco-based DJ and promoter.
The original mix is a slow, rumbling progressive number that builds from a mellow start into a grinding mid-set stonker with percussion that strikes like a baby rattlesnake. Bowel-shaking bass and an uncomplicated, synth-driven melody complete the package. Never let it be said that progressive house is not educational; ‘Blue Devil’ features a sample from Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’.
uGeNiCs, aka Omnis label manager Christian Boshell, provides the remixes. He directs the action into peak time territory, heavy on the dubby-sounding reverb and synths. The sparkling breakdown is a real gem and compliments the deeper sounds of the track superbly. The dub mix follows a similar path but with even more synths and pads thrown in for good measure.
As Polonius said, ‘though this be madness, there be method in ‘t.’ Omnis’ tenth release has that element of insanity although, like Prince Hamlet, we can never be sure whether they are genuinely crazy or whether their psychosis is confined solely to the studio.
