Chadwick Strange - Chagrin & Breakit (Omnis Recordings)
Release Date:
Reviewed: 8/10

Chadwick Strange, Omnis’ new wunderkind, is back again with a follow up to his ‘Idle’ and ‘Translational’ releases on Omnis’ ‘Chill’ offshoot. This time Strange turns up the heat a little with two more peak-time efforts.

‘Chagrin’ is the track that will receive most of the attention. It is positively dripping in melody. Shimmering keys provide a lush background to deep sweeping pads, a solid kick and mesmerising synths. This piece of production seems lost somewhere in between the dancefloor and the living room, but then so too is the listener, drawn in by the compulsive chords only to re-emerge at the other end none the wiser but much the happier.

On ‘Breakit’, Chadwick Strange turns down a breakbeat route. Again the gentle piano keys are to the fore, wrapping the syncopated beats in a soulful, melancholy melody. Slow to build, the middle portion of the track is dragged out somewhat and a shorter punchier version may be more appropriate in some circumstances.

Two deep and melancholy tracks from Omnis and Strange; both strong in their own right and both worth checking out.
