Feralcode - Spiral & Schizophrenic (FeralCode Records)
Release Date: November 2nd, 2006
Reviewed: 8/10

FeralCode Records is a digital only label who's thirteen single comes from FeralCode himself, the head honcho of this label, born in Hungary and who has been releasing tracks for quite some time now. A known member of the PH forums, Feral is a man with a specific vision and an understanding of dark and twisted progressive sounds. This time he releases an EP of twisted electro/tech that departs from his more prog-orientated releases. This EP contains two tracks that are typically dark with a peak-time feel to them.

'Spiral' starts with some Latin-house drum parts and some weird synth-made echoing stabs. The electro basslines join to carry this to the next level but it is not until the heavy electro synth and the weird syncopated melody come in the mix that the track obtains a unique flavor. This is dark material and some echoing horn-y stabs add to this effect. This is an interesting effort that many DJs could use but then probably forget they did; it's well arranged though and worthy of a listen.

'Schizophrenic' is a different story but I'd say you could find both tracks in the same book. This is straighter, pumping electro-tech with hints of progressive build-up. The Holden-esque melody that pops in makes a very welcome appearance and shows that this track has been created with a certain amount of creativity. A strip-down is then on the menu, not the most welcome one, but the melody creeps back into the mix with good effect. Good effort, more of a builder and a track with certain dancefoor results.

A good release from Feral Code, a label that has been cementing a solid reputation in the digital world with a streak of fresh-sounding releases. Many newcomers have made a good first impression through Feral's label and now it is his turn to show he's a producer to be respected. Props to Ferenc (Feral’s real name) for this and hopefully these two will get some decent remixes in order to be taken to the next level.
