Roger Martinez - Retrospect (Proton Music)
Release Date: January 17th, 2008
Reviewed: 4.5/5
User Rating: 3.6/5

This release has quite the composite of unique structures and catchy elements, of which indicate this new breed of modern tech/prog producers.

Hard Nights Day is a quirky tech melodic track with a crescendoing synth line and catchy stab elements. Fit well into an edgier tech house set quite nicely, and it's a great listen but not necessarily practical to mix with due to it's complexity.

Cosmopolite is a great modern groovy house track, a bit of a tech edge to it, but mostly just a solid house groove ready for layering in an upbeat house set.

Prime Time is definitely the winner here, and is the darkest of the bunch with deep and intricate twisted synth lines, creating a brooding and unique landscape of weird alien sounds. This mix is intricately incredible and it's no wonder that Proton immediately wanted to sign this guy after hearing this track.

Overall this is a very solid release from new comer Roger Martinez, one of many new breed of very tech savvy producers who can clearly articulate and structure very unique sounds. We look forward to more of what this guy can do.
