Serge Blake - Hronizons (Acuna Boyz Productions)
Release Date: January 26th, 2008
Reviewed: 3/5
User Rating: 4.0/5

Serge Blake is doing something that other new producers are afraid to do. That is to take the chance and get your stuff released. No doubt this is only the beginning for Serge, and these tracks summarize only the beginning of whats to come however this young producer still has a long ways to go.

The first track Miles Away is a nice trancey melodic track with well laid out structure for the first half. Beyond that the new producer shows through, and this track could use some extra mix down leveling, and mastering to give it that final feel and touch. Somewhere in the middle it gets all whack and crazy with instrument levels which make it quite in-comprehensive on where it's going. It's not really playable the way it is. Hack out those wacky measures and retain some semblance of previous structure, and then this track has huge potential.

The next one Chronikum is a dark beat type track, and starts out nice. Again I think the experience of final mix down in this young talent is showing, but good feedback is what is needed here. The bassline sounds over compressed and noisy and masks with the kick drum. Instrument levels are all over the place and should be more balanced in the mix. Other than that, the structure and flow of this track is killer, it's got great groove. The sound quality is the only draw back here. This track wasn't ready for release.

The final one Chunga-Changa again has a great structure a cool soothing flow to it, and is a real breather of track on this release. It shows the real true technical programming talent of Serge Blake, with elegant structural flow and transition. The mixing and levels are much more balanced on here and it sounds final and ready for worldwide placement in many DJ mix sets.

Overall this new producer shows his true talents in creative skill and programming structure, but lacks in complete mix down balancing and mastering. This is something only time and experience can improve on. More new producers should not be afraid to get their stuff out there if that is what they believe in, just do it!
