Marcelo Carvalho - Flex EP (Bralli Records)
Release Date: January 14th, 2008
Reviewed: 3/5
User Rating: 4.5/5

Another fairly solid EP from a new producer, Marcelo Carvalho. It's good to see them trying out their stuff, and taking that chance at it.

The favorite on this release is by far Flex a tripping deep progressive track with a well flowing bass and synth structure that keeps the track going without getting boring. It's a moderate yet solid type of track ready for clever placement in home sets or DJ dance floors.

I wish I could say the same about the others though. Can't take it no more starts with a very punchy kick and tribal like drum and instrument patterns and a nice saw tooth pulsating bass line. After that point though, it gets rather cheesy with quick sampled vocals over a slow drum roll, and a rather lackluster breakdown and buildup. Nice ideas here but production value shows for this new producer.

Heavy is just what it means, an experiment of breaks, electro synth lines, bassline sounds, and quirky sample patterns. It's actually quite pleasant to listen to but lacks in overall production and instrument balancing. Mix-ability is questionable with it's un-prectictable pattern structure. More of a song to experience rather than a track to play out.

Overall, nice set of tracks on this release, and I'm sure many others would agree -- perfection is achieved through time and experience.
