Gary Dickenson - Iron Man (Omnis Recordings)
Release Date: February 20th, 2008
Reviewed: 3.5/5

Gary Dickenson has been a name that's been gaining lots of hype with a string of releases on labels like Fiberline Audio, Pure Substance Records, Sick Watona, Fling Records to name but a few. Omnis has done well by selecting him for their 27th release. This is one groovy electro-techy track! On remix duties Alex Kenji, known for being a brand name for cool releases and supported by lots of high rollers.

The original from Gary starts off with tough drums and playful hihats. Lots of FX going through this one up until the introductive breakdown, that gives place to the filthiest electro baseline. This is late night material, directly for those "filled dancefloor" moments. Interesting ambience and build-up but seems to lack something which i can't really spot as such, resulting kind of ordinary and repetitive in spite of the fresh and upfront production.

Alex Kenji's remix sounds more housey to start with, adding a twisted baseline in the package and typical house percussion. The breakdown is blissful with claps and a "hands-in-the-air" feel. Groovy bassy stuff with high frequency edits droppin in constantly to add an extra amount of interest. Nice and simple really.

An overall interesting release which continues the Omnis tradition of solid production and fresh sound edits, only lacking just a little in musicality and inspiring personal touch. Worth more than one check, especially if you re on the look-out for solid funked up electro tech with a twist!
