Jacco@Work & Native - Two Worlds Collide (Swordtail)
Release Date: March 4th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5

Jacco & Native are nothing new to the prog and tribal scene, who have each done countless remixes either on their own or as a pair. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, you've for sure heard a track remixed or influenced by at least one of these guys. This kind of sound is a staple in many deep prog and tribal sets and this release on Swordtail is no exception.

The original keeps it at a simple but powerful structure at first but slowly building into a constant groover. This is a solid in-the-mix type of track because it's simple enough in it's overall structure and begs to be layered with another type of tough bass-y groove.

The Masque remix brings a tougher punchier bass and kick, and driving pulsating bass lines... and it's nice in it's idea but that's about it. The overlaid synth lines come out albeit a bit cheesy and trance-y at best, and continues rather repetitively like that throughout, with the occasional short drum rolls to break up the structure.

The RedLoft Mix brings back some of the syncopated tribal like drum structure the original has, but with a deeper progressive feel bringing out the key synth lines in an organized mix structure and trying not to get too repetitive -- although 8 minutes of this same structure is quite long. For a good DJ it's not a problem, probably use the first half of this track before moving on. This would make a nice set builder or late night track for the deep prog and tribal lovers.

Overall this is a solid release, with each remix acting on it's own with a clear sense of quality production and mastering. Personally the Masque remix is my least favorite, making the original still the winner here, and RedLoft coming at a close second. However to their benefit, it must be hard to remix such a track when the original is of such quality production value already.
