M&D Substance - You am I (Quimika Records)
Release Date: March 31st, 2008
Reviewed: 5/5
User Rating: 4.1/5

My attentions were snapped up big time with this little gem and i knew of M&D Substance from their associations with Polytechnic.

"You am I" starts, straight beat and a diamond of a bleepy lead line, the bass rises from the floor and sits beautifully. Some landscape pads surface and the whole experience is something of an epic.

The production just grabs you here, the way it all sits just had no sharp edges and once again with simplicity the key this tune soaks you submerges you in an ocean of sound.

Next up is "Prophecy" seems to have a tough act to follow and takes a more ambient approach. Some nice keys thrown in, almost oriental. It does come at a different angle and the composition is way more intense. Again the production is top notch but with alot more work to do keeping some of these sounds in the mix. Still, lets take nothing away from this release as M&D Substance show of there talents.

Again Quimika have hold something special here and they even allow the band to express themselves in a more in that second track. Its a good release but the two tracks are quite different, though be it the same genre.
