Johnny Rodry - Calling You (Renno Records)
Release Date: March 18th, 2008
Reviewed: 3/5

Johnny Rodry of Almada, Portugal being influenced by Jamorquai, Tiefschawrz, kraftwerk, DJ Vibe, John Creamer, and Stephane K (to name a few) is back at creating insatiable sound of house / electro / deep / progressive. His latest release titled “Calling You” brings a melodic house sound to us from his home country of Portugal.

Calling You (Original Mix) - a naturalistic sound with hands drums and strings create a melodic house sound leading into a classic house melodic house beat. Laid back sounds and loops create a very relaxed chill out sound while still keeping the music going enough to keep you moving. At time “Calling You” seems to get a little too repetitive for my tastes, but it has a lot of potential for layering and mixing to create new sounds and keep it fresh.

Calling You (Bruno Renno Remix) – with a harder almost break beat kicking it off the “Bruno Renno Remix” creates a more dance floor friendly groove. As the song progresses it incorporates a standardized bass beat. Good structuring and simplistic sounds create good layering potential while a catchy loop keeps your ear.

Calling You (Joss Dubla Remix) – right off the bat the bass beat gives you a feel that it should be in a hardcore song spinning a lot faster with it harsh hard hits. As the song progresses the bass beat does start to fit in more but never really seems to vibe. This remix could definitely benefit from a softer more inviting bass beat. A far as the rest of the song goes it keeps the same general chill / house sound as the original does and does seem to get a little repetitive towards the end.

Calling You (Fang Remix) – with a heavy bass beat (seems to be overpowering the rest of the track at times) Fang starts off with a more minimalistic sound and builds into a full rounded chill / house track with a much need touch of funk. The potential is there with the Fang Remix…it's just waiting for you to finish it off with your touch.
