Chris Fortier - As Long as the Moment Remixed - EP1 (Eq recordings)
Release Date: July 29th, 2008
Reviewed: 4.5/5

As long as the Moment Exists, the highly acclaimed debut album from Chris Fortier, gets the full remix treatment with this, the first of 4 Ep’s to be released over the coming months and all of which will see a massive line up of some of Chris’ all time musical heroes alongside some of his favourite new artists all giving their take.

First off the press is a groovin’ Error Error remix of Sunday is a Travel Day. A fitting start as he creates one of those tracks that grabs you entering a club, the sort that calls from the dance floor and beckons you to come ever closer. With hypnotic, pointy synth lines and tonal murmurs the effect from this remix is constantly intensified 10 fold with intermittent drones screaming and pounding builds stripping back to acidity. It gathers momentum from start to finish and packs more than a punch; it’s a kick in the balls!

Bruno Pronsato takes a look at As Long As The Moment Exists and turns out some wonky, minimal techno. Warping sounds from the original along with dubby beats this is one spooky sound. Be warned it might give you nightmares ;)

Perc aka Ali Wells looks after Don’t hide what you believe. Staying true to Fortier’s original, he concocts a pure, low slung and depth shaking mood. It’s high quality underground music that seems the norm from Wells these days.

Last of the press is another look at Sunday is a Travel Day with Ink & Needle molding a new shape. Arp’d basslines control his retake while a touch of rave creeps through, dragging along an emotive melody. It chugs, rolls and soothes at the same time, yet its groove is not one to forget for those peaky sets.

An exciting first installment in the remix series of Fortier’s album with all four tracks sitting a little bit off centre, not quite being what we’ve heard before but delivering an effective message for the dancefloor. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for.
