Gesiete - The Pledge EP (Bit Records Mexico)
Release Date: August 12th, 2008
Reviewed: 4.0/5
User Rating: 3.7/5

With over 250 releases in just the past 3 years, Bit Records Mexico has consistently offered quality releases that have consistently found their ways into the crates of the world's biggest jocks. BRM's latest offering, "Gesiete - The Pledge EP" continues the tradition of quality that BRM strives to deliver.

Gesiete's original piece is a chunky electro thumper, that introduces itself with some nicely programmed buzzes and bleeps, typical for an electro track. The true character of The Pledge comes to the forefront after the first buildup, when a finely tuned, pulsating bassline brings itself into the picture. During the first big break, Gesiete introduces a beautiful wobbly-sounding synth, but unfortunately that's really all there is to be said about this track from that point. Because of the nice sounding bassline, this track will be attractive to many. However, it never fully reaches its potential.

On the flip side, we have the Santiago Deep interpretation, and he really makes this track his own. Literally! Using only a few minor synth stabs and bleeps from Gesiete's original, Santiago crafts a finely tuned progressive piece, with a slight electro vibe. All the pieces are in the right place, including a nice two and a half minute intro, leading into a quick breakdown, that takes the listener on a 30-second vacation into space, and then spits them right back intro the abyss of progressive bliss that Santiago has constructed. This will make for an excellent building or winding down track. It's upbeat, but not quite peak-hour material.

Overall, this is a great release, and worthy of your bucks. The Santiago rework will receive the most support, although the original is only a few steps behind. If only Gesiete would have pledged a little more time into his original...
