Royal Sapien - Turning Tricks (Olaris Records)
Release Date: August 14th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5
User Rating: 3.7/5

Olaris is a label I look forward to each release on, their Soundtrack sound often dominates their releases and if this is why you follow then them you might wish to read on. Hot on the heels of their great work with "Funk Harmony Park," this time it’s no less then New York’s Royal Sapien, offering us his new three tracker, "Turning tricks." Royal Sapien has over the years been supported by DJs such as Digweed and Fortier as well as many other greats, plus he’s got a remix schedule longer then both my arms.

The Original carries what you would expect, if you like dance beats coupled with deep and meaningful sweeps on a soundtrack backdrop, then this might be right up your alley. This kind of musical vibe works well on the dancefloor, and bolstered with the high level of production you might expect, this could stand well. The plucks here really add some extra liveliness to the production.

Boshell & Cody’s Slave to U Mix bursts out from the blocks with a bit of punch, the original melodic vibe being substituted by a deeper industrial sound. Plenty of attitude before glimpses of the original subtly mix in and out.

Finally DJ Kira’s Lady of the Night Remix enters to offer a breaks oriented mix, the strings translate well against a sparser beat and darker sound. It’s nice here as the sound switches from darker on to the deeper moments.
