Any way you slice it, Australia’s Beef Records, serves up some tasty prime cuts here, a la Parisian duo Solead’s new ”Serpent” EP, featuring remixes by Boris Brejcha and Deepchild. Reaching #1 on the MyPromoPool™ chart this week, ”Serpent” is one slab of hot techy beats and proggy synth vibes not to be overlooked. Serpent (Original) dishes up amazing snappy, minimal tech-house percussion, laying down a groovy, bumping foundation, while restrained melodic elements and filtered synths propel the tune into progressive territory. Deepchild brings additional plucky, tech-prog synth melodies to his Serpent Remix, absolutely sick really. The synth arrangement has been chopped and rearranged, stuttering in crescendo and assuming a more pronounced position within the mix while building toward an impressive climax. There is some nice variety to this pack on the flip side with the frenzied, shuffling percussion and moderate electro riffs in Loose Power, with Boris Brejcha bringing some bigger, squelchy electro bass to this Loose Power Remix. Nice in their own rights, but these two seem a little overshadowed by the power of the A side and the bonus. As a bonus track, Aussie duo, Shades of Gray offer another proper proggy tech-house rendition of Serpent. Going for a less teched-up hat/snare arrangement, they’ve kept the bright, proggy e-piano stabs, while adding in more popping, squeaking, and gasping elements to fill this one out nicely, great work.
