Proton Music comes gold again with Derek Howell and his "Adam West Remix EP" Ambiguous Venture (Logiztik Sounds and Kally Remix) kicks with flicks, bleeps, beats and chimes just as we expect, all layered with a darker level as this progresses. Tight hi-hats add a really sweet element of groove here as the toms rise right from under you. We are talking width as this baby sends sound to you from almost everywhere. Sick Day Getaway (His Boy Elroy Remix) is an attention grabber, it starts to build quite quickly and warning signs are obvious this will rock. Textbook execution as the bass hits and the strings that follow. Filters guide us in before the typical drop. Yes, this has been done in similar fashion before, but it's all as it should be when the breatbeat drops in. This has a real dramatic, soundtrack feeling about it, if this kind of breaks are your bag then make sure it's in yours. Ambiguous Venture (Michael Feihstel Remix) rounds this out nicely and offers a more melodic experience to the release, with some nice electric piano grooves as this swings though. This release seems to provide glimpses of what Proton was like before music took a more beat-and-chime approach. Top marks on this release to artist, label and remixer.
