Erphun - 2wo Butterflies (Audio Therapy)
Release Date: September 22nd, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5

Landmark label Audio Therapy puts forth its latest offering by Erphun, innocuously titled "2wo Butterflies." Having been quite a year for new labels, Dave Seaman's Audio Therapy maintains a strong reputation, with their releases proving paradigmatic of what's required at this level.

Butterfly I rapidly displays a neatly constructed tune with polished melodies. The listening experience of this kind of production is effortless, lie back and enjoy. The chimes float with ease, as if in front of you, without a single rough edge. This strikes me as a real mid-set big room sound and one can imagine a few clubbers getting deeply lost in this one.

Butterfly II takes a more aggressive, driving approach and sets a darker mood. Hollow sounds enter with real dynamic width. Later, just when you think the track is out, bang! It's back in, so this serves as great floor teaser. It has great industrial sounds that drift deep in the back.

2wo Butterflies (Matt Zo Remix) turns up the attitude. This gets off to a percussive start and slowly a more progressive sound finds the its way in at the midway point. Thrown in are a surprise or two, a few sweet drops and a few climactic bangs. The beat is almost tribal as it swings its way though the tune.

2wo Butterflies (Oliver Molder and Norman Zube Remix) close out this collection with a mix friendly intro. It's the sort of suspense angle where glimpses cut though only to be stripped back the to minimal, until a very cut up sound takes its place in the track. Rather late in the tune, the main riff breaks though, but only briefly. Again this speaks of attitude and could serve well to take you to the close of a set.
