Dudu Nahas & Di Liberato - Cream EP (Citric Recordings)
Release Date: September 23rd, 2008

Dudu Nahas and Di Liberato are essential links in the chain of next-generation progressive house producers. Both of these Brazilian phenoms have been hammering out excellent music as of late. Nahas enjoyed a big release earlier in the summer, when he remixed Chris Kessler's "Croma" (Bralli Records), under his D-Ignition Project alias. He has also done work for respectable imprints such as Bit Records Mexico. Di Liberato has released nearly a dozen records, with most of them appearing on Peak Hour Music; while doing remixes for bigger names such a Thee-O. Nahas and Liberato join forces with New York-based Citric Recordings, a relatively new label that has been offering some fantastic packages since it's inception. This is Dudu Nahas & Di Liberato - "Cream EP".

Cream is a chunky electro-progressive house tune, with a catchy bass hook, and an assertive build. The track opens up into a beautiful ambiance, making it a great opening track for a progressive or electro set. The chunky bassline has an undeniable electro feel to it, but I'd be hesitant to label this as a straight-up electro track. Nahas and Liberato do a great job layering synths to create a dream-like atmosphere, but the bassline in this one is what really gives it it's punch.

On the B-side of this digital release, we have Zig, quite a remarkable tune with a very catchy and memorable hook. Things start off slowly, but once the bassline kicks in you know you're going for a little ride into progressive heaven. The "Toronto sound" is flirted with a bit in "Zig" with the use of the ever-familiar quarter note synth stab, which was made famous by Deadmau5 and Adam K, but "Zig" is not entirely dominated by that sound. Washy leads and atmospheric layers are added in the background to give off a dreamy effect, and really set the mellow tone. This is a fantastic building piece, which has already received a charting from Darin Epsilon; a man who knows quality progressive when he hears it.

All in all, this is a great release, that just may fly under a lot of people's radars. It's low-key gems like these that truly keep things moving in our ever-evolving industry.

"Cream nice chunky prog here good melody and buildup breakdown structure without getting too boring, but still very epic drawn out end of set stuff, or could be best for home mix not the dance floor. zig has too many key shifts make it cheesy trancey more newbie sounding." - 3.0 / 5
