Overcast - Solaris (Polytechnic Recordings)
Release Date: October 7th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5
User Rating: 3.6/5

Denver based Polytechnic Recordings will have put out over 40 releases by the end of October! Not bad going for an imprint which kicked off in 2006. Steady support from the industry's finest jocks has become a norm, so that bodes well for the future.

This three track release, "Solaris" from Overcast, brings a floaty melodic progressive flavour, which is well reflected in the title, and space age artwork.

The Solaris original mix flows nicely; the percussion and drums are tight, whilst being driven by a subtle bassline. The icing on the cake comprises of focused strings and melodies, which are layered nicely.

The Consoul remix is in a similar vein, but perhaps a little more chunky, while the Oracle remix is more energetic and driven, perhaps a better dancefloor tool.

All in all, a decent release from Polytechnic Records, a good overall package. With forthcoming releases from the likes of Derek Howell, Cream Sound, Jerome Robins and Felix Stone the future looks good for this American label.
