Thorne Monterra - A Good Day For This Fall EP (Sunset to Sunrise Recordings)
Release Date: September 19th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5
User Rating: 3.3/5

If a record could be a beacon in the darkness, Throne Monterra's "A Good Day For This Fall EP" would show me the way. What initially seems like a trance endeavor gives way to orchestrated tech and uplifting progressive rhythms. Sunset To Sunrise Recordings reminds me once again why I fell in love with this music - soul.

For This Fall begins by somehow managing to make a delayed bell sound like a haunting woodwind synth. A soft digital hook gives way to a Moog bass that takes it from what feels like trance to something just a touch funkier. Halfway through, a cloud-like breakdown teases before reluctantly giving back the beat. But oh, don't we love to be teased?

Good For Today is a much more minimal, symphonic outing. A somewhat beat-less cut that could give your mix the chance to either relax and go deep for a few or set the tone for something heavy. Tremolo strings roll along atop a landscape of soft stabs and arpeggiated rhythms. Not a whole lot of percussion, but sometimes the drums need to take a break.
