DJ Marcus first got on the decks in 2001 while residing in Austin, TX. He quickly became a regular in the Austin afterhours scene playing 4-6 hour sets. The afterhours scene begged for dark progressive house which is where he got his style. This mix might make you think you're driving through midnight.

Unless you have been incarcerated since the late nineties you may have heard of Bedrock records, probably the most widely recognised label on the progressive scene and more recently showing their penchant for pure underground music by reaching out further from just one sound. This is no more evident than with this double header from Christian Smith.

Smith, more known in Techno circles, has put out some big tracks in the last year, notably ‘Transit Time’ on Sino and ‘Total Departure’ on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label (

Amsterdam’s Jason Lanox just recently dropped us this dope 2 tracker, Bellalyka/The Getaway, courtesy of Deep Records.

Bellalyka comes from a unique angle; you can tell the sound selection is well thought out, and the melody is indeed on the bizarre end of the spectrum. The tune is structured nicely in tech house fashion early on, while using more protracted progressive phrases later, and when it drops in, the tune brings an excellent driving groove, with its humpy bass, subtle dubbed out atmospherics and a

Citric Recordings brings on it's third release; this one coming from longtime New York DJ turned producer, Rami Deejay.

Sinister Habit is a well crafted tech tune, filled with filtered & reverbed percussion, bells and snares. It has a very clean sound to it, and builds very nicely. Things progress up to an epic climax toward the end, which makes 'Sinister Habit' a perfect piece for building a set. While not quite peak-hour material, this one is definitely groovy enough to get people moving, and it's well-mastered;

Zonker the Brainless, alternately known as Tortusoid or Zonik, has no hair and an ear for really weird sounding tunes. Mixing since October 2006, Zonker's musical background consists of singing in a barbershop quartet and air-guitaring the bass part in Bela Fleck's Sinister Minister. Raised in Yellow Springs, Ohio, hippie oasis in a sea of rednec

Australia has been the spawning ground of talented producers over the past few years. Perhaps there's something in the drinking water, because Disoma Records (which is a division of Moonbeam) latest offering shows that the Aussie's are just getting better and better. This is "Uone & Pavel Khvaleev - Make Me Wet".

Make Me Wet (Original Mix)
gets thing started with a nicely tuned kick and a dark and dirty bassline that lays in the background far enough to make a statement, yet not overpower things. Percussion

Homes Art Music is back around this time with a very interesting EP by talented African artist, Sin Tek.

Karmacho Original version has a very inclined groove with a pluck, and an interesting freak-out type breakdown that could bring to the dancefloor a rather warped atmosphere.

The Julian Misher remix is a track with a mellower techno atmosphere and a precision line to follow in the groove.

The Jerome Montes remix is a valid alternative version aimed at those who prefer elect

A lot of time passed since "Silk Digital records" label got its first breath of life... Many things happened since then and the label keeps developing and growing as it becomes better-known and more respectable on progressive music scene. Our music tastes do not end with progressive house & breaks, we are happy to introduce Silk Digital's younger brother - "Silk Sofa music"! Here we represent the other side of quality electronic music: more calm, relaxing, chilling. Silk Sofa covers a wide area of genres: from chillout and downtempo to amb

Getting his start in the late 90’s, DJ Markitos began producing his first tracks, which were predominately trance and techno sounds. From there he has progressed into his own new sound, which he calls “a summer cocktail of Chill, House, Electronica, and Ambient.” Now going by the name of Solar Cycle this London producer has released a new album titled HOUSE SESSIONS which contains 10 chill/house tracks.

The only one that I'm reviewing is titled Along, which contains some sexy deep basses complimented by an i

Chicago-based imprint, Nightshade Music is making a name for itself by following a fairly simple business plan, which includes releasing only high quality music. Nightshade's ninth release, "Joel Armstrong - El Squelcho" adds to this up and coming label's great reputation for delivering high-end sounds.

"El Squelcho (Original Mix)" by Joel Armstrong is full of groove, and could arguably be the best version found in this monster pack. The original has an unrelenting groove, filled with finely tuned synths, an

As the best of both worlds collide, Remco Durez's new release (out August 5, 2008) on Timeshift Record, titled Modulor, brings a heavy and much needed trance influence to the boards. Echoing synths and bass lines full of solid goodness match up to create some great music and unique sounds.

Modulor – original Hits the ground running with a heavy rolling bass line and cascading synth that come together to unite house and trance as this original tears up the decks.

Upcoming London artist High Torque has been creating quite a stir since his first major release last October. Over the past 10 months, this phenom has touched all genre bases; including progressive, minimal, tech house, and electro pieces. He joins forces with Loopfreaks Black for his second release on the imprint, and returns to the progressive sound that started things off for him last year. This is "High Torque - Sparks".
